A: GENERAL STATEMENT:

Capstone Community Action, INC is a progressive non-profit company based in Barre. The Weatherization division offers energy saving diagnostic and construction services to low income Vermonters. EnergySmart of Vermont is a home performance contracting subsidiary of CVCAC, offering local green building and remodeling services to residential and commercial clients in the Central Vermont area, including delivering whole house, performance tested solutions for single family, multifamily and small commercial buildings. This process requires the development of work scopes for buildings using diagnostic tools. The mission at the Weatherization group is to help home owners and business owners to improve the efficiency and quality of their buildings’ performance.

As a member of the Weatherization Team, the Solar and Building Performance Analyst will provide a variety of solar and building performance sales and technical services. Sales services will include outreach, marketing support and sales tracking and closing. Technical services include testing, estimating and reporting support. This position reports to the Director for sales related issues and to the Operations Manager for technical issues. This position is expected to be working towards a certification as a Building Performance Institute Building Analyst and eventually towards a certification as BPI Specialist in Heating and Shell.

B. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

• Maintaining equipment

• Maintaining tools

• Basic knowledge of building materials, carpentry and installation techniques

• Use of computers

• Use of performance testing equipment

• Ability to read plans

• Measurement of buildings

• Organized recording of test results and observations

• Understanding of the sales process

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform home performance inspections and solar evaluations

o Perform IR scans and visual building inspections

o Evaluate solar exposure and evaluate electrical load

o Perform blower door, duct blaster, and combustion safety zone tests

o Interpret results of tests and inspections

o Take off dimensions from building plans for new construction

o Model buildings in a variety of energy ratings tools, producing savings estimates for recommended measures

o Develop estimates and written reports

o Spreadsheet and database systems development and maintenance to support the inspection process

• Sales presentations to customers after completion of reports

• Staffing of company booths and public presentations

• Other duties as assigned

• Successful and credible interaction with customers, builders and architects on technical issues

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Lifting (approximately 50 lbs)

• Climbing (ladders, stairs, etc.)

• Bending or stooping

• Extended periods of walking

• Regular exposure to weather conditions

• Operating a motor vehicle (eligible for Capstone insurance coverage)

• License required

• Owning & operating power & hand tools

• Exposure to potentially harmful chemicals or materials

• Operation of computer

• Operation of test equipment

• Requires the physical ability to crawl through attics and crawlspaces

• Non-smoker preferred

DESIRED BACKGROUND AND EDUCATION

• Four year degree or equivalent experience with technical disciplines

• Experience in building trades

• Sales experience

• Experience preferred in solar thermal technology, residential energy efficiency and building performance environments.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Some sales or related experience

• Computer usage: typing, spreadsheets, e-mail, word processing, databases and file manipulation and online research skills

• Ability to learn computer energy modeling

• Knowledge of building construction styles and techniques

• Ability to learn from assigned reading on building science

• Short written report writing experience

• Attention to detail

• An investigative spirit

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• Position is full time salaried (40 hours per week)

• 30’s (based on experience and relevant education ) plus incentive opportunities
