Brook Street High School Substitute Teacher

Since 1965, Capstone Community Action has supported individuals and families in Central Vermont in achieving economic and housing stability and rising out of poverty. Capstone’s early childhood education and family services are central to its mission, offering center-based and home-based Head Start and Early Head Start programs that support positive child, family, and community outcomes that use a whole-child approach and actively engage parents as partners in their children’s early learning and development.

Position: Capstone’s Brook Street High School, an alternative secondary educational program designed to meet the unique needs of pregnant and parenting high school students, is seeking a Substitute Teacher to work on a per diem basis in the absence and/or in support of the regular classroom teacher.

As a member of the Brook Street team of dedicated teachers and staff offering high-quality academic programming alongside supportive services, the Substitute Teacher works with small groups of students, providing instruction and oversight of programming, while ensuring a welcoming and comfortable environment in which students feel valued and have opportunities to thrive. Qualifications: The required, minimum qualifications for the Substitute Teacher include high school completion (diploma, GED, or equivalent) and experience teaching students in upper elementary, middle, or secondary school, or adult students working toward a high school credential.

  • Ability to communicate, engage, and work effectively with diverse students and staff.
  • Understanding of and positive regard for non-traditional students and young parents.
  • Commitment to working collaboratively with a team toward shared goals and objectives.

Compensation & Benefits: This is a per diem, non-exempt position offering an hourly rate of pay of $17.46 per hour. Substitute Teachers are also eligible to participate in the 401k retirement plan (with employer match), may be eligible to earn sick time, have access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and have opportunities for training and professional development.
