Capstone Community Action announces $91,000 raised for Fuel Your Neighbors
Campaign powered by VSECU with support from National Life Group and community

Barre, VT - The Fuel Your Neighbors campaign provided $91,000 in 2018 for central Vermonters in need of food and heating assistance. Capstone Community Action partnered with VSECU, the National Life Group, The Point FM radio and many community members and businesses to surpass last year’s campaign total of $67,000.  The funds raised were able to “fill the gap” for thousands of individuals and families seeking assistance from Capstone Community Action during this long, cold winter.

The State’s increased restrictions on heating assistance have made this campaign even more critical to our most vulnerable Vermonters, the majority of whom are children and seniors who would otherwise have to go to sleep cold or hungry. The call to action posed to the community resulted in a resounding success.

“We are grateful to everyone who made this campaign such a success this year,” stated Capstone Board Chair Rubin Bennett.  “In particular, we thank VSECU, National Life Group, The Alchemist and some incredibly generous community members for taking a lead in this effort. Over the past four months Capstone Community Action has been able to help thousands of families have heat in their homes and food on their tables. Our community’s support meant these families – your neighbors – weren’t forced to choose between food, heat or another critical need.”

To boost the impact of donations for this campaign VSECU and National Life provided matching dollar opportunities to maximize community donations.

“The growth in community support for Fuel Your Neighbors speaks to how well Vermonters band together to take care of each other, “said Rob Miller, CEO of VSECU. “We’re all proud and inspired to be part of this effort to keep our neighbors warm and well-fed.”

Beth Rusnock of National Life Group stated: “After such a long winter which doesn’t seem to want to let go, this program has never been more important. National Life is proud to support Capstone’s Fuel Your Neighbors campaign and applaud its success.”
