Capstone Community Action Opens Doors to New Lamoille County Integrated Service Center

(Morrisville, VT) – Capstone Community Action opened the doors to its new integrated service center in Morrisville at 250 Industrial Park Drive. The center will strengthen Capstone’s services to Lamoille County residents, helping individuals and families in crisis to stabilize their lives and working to elevate households out of poverty.

The center hosts Capstone’s core services in Lamoille County, including housing counseling and homelessness prevention, emergency heating assistance, financial capabilities coaching, and Head Start home visitors and family partners. It allows Capstone to provide other core organizational services in Lamoille County such as asset building, micro business development and weatherization services more effectively. In addition, the center features a childcare center with three Head Start classrooms, accommodating 30 Head Start eligible children and 15 tuition students.

“Access to high quality childcare and education is important for all families. But, for families impacted by poverty in particular, it is critical,” remarks Christy Swenson-Robertson, Director of Heat Start at Capstone Community Action. “Having classrooms in the same location as Capstone’s compliment of wraparound services, truly promotes the ‘two-generation’ approach our organization takes to help families thrive.”

The center’s start-up costs have been funded through a grant from the national office of Head Start and through private support from the local community.

“We are grateful to those in the community who have supported this project,” stated Capstone Board Chair, Rubin Bennet. “We are thrilled to be creating an integrated service center that will further our mission and deepen our commitment to the residents of Lamoille County.”

Capstone Community Action, formerly Central Vermont Community Action Council, was founded in 1965 and works to alleviate the suffering caused by poverty and to create economic opportunity for people and communities.  Capstone’s programs include emergency food assistance, emergency heat and utility assistance, housing counseling including homelessness intervention, transportation assistance, community economic development, weatherization services and child and family development programs in Early Head Start/Head Start. We serve more than 14,000 people, including nearly 3,000 in Lamoille County, through these programs each year.
