What You Need to Know for Summer 2025

Important Summer Service Update from Capstone Community Action

1.   Capstone Community Action will be temporarily closing our Energy and Outreach Services from June 30 to September 30, 2025, due to ongoing funding challenges.

What’s Paused This Summer:

  • Assistance with state benefit applications (e.g., 3SquaresVT, Fuel Assistance)
  • Application support for Green Mountain Power’s Energy Assistance Program
  • Help navigating utility payment plans

2.   Capstone's Energy Assistance program ended April 30 and will not be available during the summer closure.

3.   Farm to Family Coupons

Farm to Family Coupons will be available starting after July 1, with in-person distribution only at local Capstone offices. Please call ahead to make an appointment.

4.   Emergency Furnace Help

If you are in need of Emergency Furnace Assistance between July and September, please call our main line at 802-479-1053 to find out if any resources are available.

For a list of additional organizations that may be able to assist with heat, utilities, and basic needs, refer to our resource handout (PDF).

5.   Capstone's Randolph office will be closed on Fridays from July through September. Please contact our main number if you need assistance at 802-479-1053.

6.   Gopher Transportation Update

As of July 1, Gopher’s free ride program, Mobility For All, will end due to reduced funding from the Vermont Agency of Transportation and Green Mountain Transit. This has been a vital service for many Capstone clients, and we are sad to see it go.

In response, Gopher is launching a new option:
Gopher-It Rideshare — a discounted ride service for eligible residents in Central Vermont. Think of it as a highly subsidized taxi with a short intake process to qualify.

Gopher will continue to operate its fleet and maintain an office at Gable Place, though with limited hours. Clients can still call or text us at 1-855-467-4375. Please note, response times may be slightly delayed.

The entire staff deeply appreciate your support and understanding during this time. They remain committed to serving the community and will continue adapting to meet the region’s needs.
