Community Responds Generously to Capstone’s Fuel Your Neighbors Initiative to Provide Emergency Food and Heating Assistance to Vulnerable Central Vermonters. National Life Group Challenges Others to Get Involved

(BARRE, VT) In less than two months, the Fuel Your Neighbors campaign has raised nearly $70,000 in donations and match commitments to support emergency food and heating assistance for vulnerable central Vermont households.

Capstone Community Action launched Fuel Your Neighbors, powered by VSECU, to raise $100,000 in three months to help prevent community members from going to sleep cold and hungry this winter.

To inspire others to take part, and to help Capstone reach its goal of $100,000, National Life Group has offered to match the next $7,500 donated to this initiative.

Winter is a tough time for thousands of central Vermonters. Families often must choose between basic necessities like food and heat, and children and seniors are the most vulnerable in these difficult situations. This year, Capstone will work with over 7,000 people to help put food on their table and heat in their homes.

“The extreme cold snap we recently experienced has only made things tougher for those struggling to survive the cold winter months,” remarks Rubin Bennett, Board Chair of Capstone Community Action. “The community’s support of Fuel Your Neighbors is critical to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of those most vulnerable.”

“Thankfully there’s a resource for anyone in our community struggling with the cold bite of winter: Capstone’s Fuel Your Neighbors program,” states Beth Rusnock, President of the National Life Group Foundation. “Winters in Vermont are long; let’s work together to make sure that they’re manageable for our vulnerable neighbors.”

Fuel Your Neighbors is a giving campaign, powered by VSECU with additional support from National Life Group and The Point FM to raise money for Capstone Community Action’s emergency food and heating assistance services. Learn more about Fuel Your Neighbors at fuelyourneighbors.org.
